Fleur Rustiques

C7 Studio's new metal work, Fleur Rustiques. This is our first sample. We will be creating at least five different types of flowers soon. The use of steel, copper and brass will be utilized.

Fleur Rustiques can be used for garden ornamentation, home decor, wedding decorations or gifts that express the true meanings of love.

34 inches tall. Each petal is approximately 6 inches long. The patina is a faux natural rust and it is covered with clear wax to seal it forever. Check back soon for more designs and colors with this particular object. We are in the process of creating a tulip, rose, orchid, bird of paradise, and sunflower. Will post soon!

TFS's Sample Meeting

C7 Studio created these trays for The Flower Shop. They are sample pieces for a wedding that we will have more information on at a later date. The two tiered tray is 37 inches tall, 12 inches wide, and 30 inches long. The single tray is a 24 inch square.

The Flower Shop was kind enough to send us these pictures of the pieces after they completed their floral arrangements on them.

The trays were hand made and hammer shaped. Each one is water tight and made coated with a noir coloring.

Shiva Lingam Stones with "Halo" Gallery Stands

These "Halo" Gallery Stands were designed for London Coin Galleries of Newport Beach. The Shiva Lingam Stone is a symbol of the God Shiva; he is one of the five primary forms of Hindu God. The use of this symbol for worship is an ancient tradition in India extending back at least to the early Indus Valley civilization.

The "Halo" Gallery Stands have been specifically fitted for each lingam stone. The height size of four gallery stands are between seven to eighteen inches. The largest lingam stone weighed 105 pounds and our "Halo" Gallery Stand was able to hold it completely secured.

The stands were finished with a patina coating "Mahogany."

African Fetish Statue with "Double Hanger" Gallery Stand

Nagaland Omala Antique Necklace with "Dome" Gallery Stand

C7 Studio created "Dome" Gallery Stand for London Coin Galleries of Newport Beach. The Nagaland Omala Antique Necklace and "Dome" Gallery Stand has a perfect contrast between the orange beads and mahogany gallery stand.

The "Dome" Gallery Stand has a height of 21 inches and a base of 10 inches by 10 inches. The stand was finished with a patina coating "Mahogany."

"Cradle" Gallery Stand

This “Cradle” Gallery Stand was designed for Bo Tree Source. The stunning carved Indian wood is made from a roof support for a house in Banepa, India. The attachment is cradled – no drilling or epoxy.

The base is ten inches wide, ten inches in length and half an inch thick. The overall height is forty-two inches. The gallery stand was finished with Flat Black Primer.

Scythia Silver Armlet with “Cradle” Gallery Stand

The base is eight inches wide, seven inches length and quarter inch thick. The amethyst floats off the base three and a half inches and the overall height is approximately eight inches. C7 Studio's patina finish is "Mahogany."

Petrified Pine Cones with Double "Cradle" Gallery Stand

London Coin Galleries of Newport Beach requested C7 Studio to design a gallery stand for these two petrified pine cones. They are from Patagonia, Argentina around the Jurassic period. The Cradle Gallery Stand was hand-crafted so that the petrified pine cones fit into the cradle without wobbling or slipping.

The lowest post is floating an inch away from the base and taller post is two and half inches up to ensure an artistic balance. The base is three and half wide and five and half inches length. The overall height is four inches. The stand was finished with a patina coating “Noir.”

Golden Dragons with "Post" Gallery Stands

These two stands were designed for Bo Tree Source. The Golden Dragons were drilled so that they are mounted on the stands but there is no permanent attachment with epoxy.

The rectangle bases are three inches wide and five inches length. The overall height is approximately twenty-six inches. The bases were finished with a Flat Black Primer.

African Lip Plates with “Custom” Gallery Stand

C7 Studio designed this custom made stand to fit three African Lip Plates for London Coin Galleries of Newport Beach. The African Lip Plates were perfectly secured on the curved rod without epoxy.

The base is five inches wide and nine inches length. The overall height is approximately twelve inches. The patina finish is "Natural Rust."

Shell and Woven Fiber Tribal Necklace with “Ellipse” Gallery Stand

Antiques & Interiors wanted C7 Studio to design these specific stands for displaying their Shell and Woven Fiber Necklaces. The “Ellipse” Gallery Stand is tilted ten degrees and has five miniature hooks to keep necklace from sagging.

The base is eight inches wide and four inches length. The overall height is ten inches and the stand was finished with a patina coating “Mahogany.”

Burma Puppet Head with “Modified” Wood Gallery Stand

This wood stand was created for Bo Tree Source. The modified dowel slipped past the Burma Puppet Head's internal structure and rested against it without drilling or epoxy.

The square base is three inches wide and one inch thick and the overall height is fourteen inches. The recycled wood was covered with special coating to eliminate wood grains. The base was sprayed with flat black primer.

African Anklet with “Crown” Gallery Stand

C7 Studio's First Biannual Report

I guess we never formally explained how C7 Studio came to be. Well, this is the story -

In 2005, Dustin and I had an idea about making an online art magazine that would be called C7. C7 originally stood for things the magazine would be about colors (that one is easy), canvas (art works), clay (ceramics), camera (photography), creative (the inspiration), curtain (theater) and critique (the reviews) so hence seven Cs. We worked hard to establish it but unfortunately did not have the time to write the whole thing ourselves and couldn't find any other writers to contribute. Our plan fell apart.

We went back to working on our own artworks.

Two years later, we decided to start a pottery business. I took several Ceramics classes during my college years and Dustin enjoyed doing it also. The idea was to do our own works and have them for sale but also have a Studio where other people who were interested in ceramics could come, rent a wheel, and work to. Unfortunately studio space is expensive. We were never able to establish C7 studio and were not comfortable having strangers in our home.

Dustin had decided to focus only on ceramic works and open a studio later. He started talking to Daina about the Los Angeles scene and people that they could sell too. Due to her experience in the Los Angeles designer world they started to discuss running a business together. Daina and Fray came to our home several times. We would sit and talk for hours and hours. Our final plan was to have a business that focused on pottery and designer lamps. Because Dustin already owned the name, we called it C7.

All of us re-defined the meaning of C7 - Seven of Cups.

C7 Studio was established in April 2007. We were dabbling in a variety of things. Whatever came to mind we built. We started to work on lamps and then boxed artworks and finally to gallery stands. Our first gallery stands were sold to Yellow Rose Collection, Paleo Facts, and Bo Tree Source. Soon other clients came to us for our Metal Gallery Stands.

Our progress has dramatically changed from lamps to
old and newer gallery stands.

It has been over a year since we first made gallery stands. We have made 154 gallery stands and still counting! I didn't expect us to have made so much since December 2007. Our orders reached its highest peak last month.

I would like to say Thank You to London Coin Galleries of Newport Beach and Bo Tree Source for being our long-term clients especially C7 partners: Dustin, Daina and Fray for investing their time and patience into this great business.

"Clip" Gallery Stand

C7 Studio designed "Clip" Gallery Stand for a private client. The statue stands on its own with the help of a metal clip at the base of its feet.

The square plate's base is three and half inches and quarter inch thick. It has been finished with a patina coating "Henna."

Brass Lion Heads with Double "Modified" Gallery Stand

This stand for the Brass Lion Heads was designed for Bo tree Source. We created a modified post stand which has a cork head at the tip of the post to secure the Brass Lion Heads in a natural way.

The base of the Brass Lion Heads is five inches width and fifteen inches length. The overall height is approximately six inches tall. The base was finished with flat black primer.

Jadeite Ear Flare Frontals with Multi "Post" Gallery Stand

C7 Studio specifically created this one of a kind stand that has five posts welded to the base to accent the Jadeite Ear Flare Frontals as requested by our client, London Coin Galleries of Newport Beach. They are hailed from Mexico, 1000 BC - 1000 AD.

The Multi "Post" Gallery Stand's base is three inches width, seven inches length and quarter inch thick. The ear plugs float from one and half inch to six and half inches. The overall height is seven inches. We finished it with a patina coating "Henna" to give a nice contrast to the celadon ear plugs.

Indonesian Ceremonial Knives with "Lyre" Gallery Stands

C7 Studio designed "Lyre" gallery stands for our client, London Coin Galleries of Newport Beach Indonesian Ceremonial Knives.

The knives float off the base one and a half inch and the overall height for the three knives are approximately eight - ten inches in length. We finished them with a patina coating "Noir." They are attached cradled style with no drilling or epoxy.

Garden Panels

From Art Panels for Garden - Private Client

"Abaci" pair of garden art panels that C7 Studio created and installed in a private residence this month.

These garden art panels were created using salvaged steel and stones found in nature. The steel used is rusted garden shed panels and strips of flashing that were collected in the California desert. The stones were collected as rough pieces in the studio yard and shaped until pleasing to the touch.

The creation process consisted of cutting the metal into random shapes, re-assembling them and then quilting the assemblage together using steel wire as thread. This 'quilt' was then attached to a frame composed of recycled house railing. Hand carved native California quartzite and serpentine stones are strung abacus style on a steel rod.

The the cool, smooth stone abacus beads can be spun and slid adding an interactive element to the garden wall decor.

The "frame" was made with recycled house railing destined for the dump, steel garden shed panels found blowing around in our neighborhood*, and hand carved Quartzite and Serpentine stones mounted abacus style.

*Out here in the high desert people try to have small steel tool sheds but they are blown away by the high winds. We live below a large mountain range where the wind takes everything that isn't secured.

Daina here.... above is our first piece of custom garden art! Deja and I collected the rusty background... 4" x 6' strips of rusted steel found while taking walks in the desert.

I "quilted" the strips together with wire in random small sections until it was a big enough background to cover the support frame that Fran and Dustin welded. Deja prepped and patinaed the copper squares and rectangles. Dustin helped me fabricate and put together the supports that "float" the copper.

Dustin, Fran and I installed the piece today. Everything went smoothly and the client was very pleased. I am so proud of our studio! Way to go team...High fives all around. :)

I love turning "trash" into fantastic art material. It goes without saying, one mans trash is another mans treasure.

Ethnic Miao Silver Jewelry

Hi, Daina here!

I am very proud of custom gallery stand order we just finished. This was our first time making stands so delicate and fitted.

The slide show below shows the ethnic Miao jewelry (pronounced meow) from China mounted on their stands. The pieces are really heavy yet beautifully hand-wrought silver....the earrings weigh close to a pound each. The Miao are obsessed with silver and in some villages every man is a silver smith.

The large mounted wooden piece at the end of the slide show is a tomb door that we created a cradle gallery stand for...I need to find out exactly where it came from.

In regards to the stands, our client requested that we make the stands as small and delicate looking as possible. We had to use cold rolled steel for the stands to be strong enough when that thin. Cold rolling is steel that has been rolled into its final shape at room temperature which hardens and stiffens the steel.

It's hard to say what my absolute favorite piece was... but i have to say I kinda fell in love with how the tassels drape off this comb. It must have weighed at least a few pounds!

Agadir Ammonite Delivery

Daina here....Deja and I took a little road trip down to Fallbrook today to drop off the chalky Agadir Ammonites on Custom Stands to paleofacts.com. I think we (Deja and I) have a little trouble parting with the beautiful things once we are done with them. My Preeeeeeeshus!

The drive down and back was gorgous. The stunning combo of denim sky and crinkly powder sugar mountains was just too much for me and I had to take photos. The desert and surrounding mountains are more beautiful in winter then I ever could have imagined.

Our studio creates custom gallery stands. Each gallery stand is handmade insuring an artistic balance between the display piece and the base. Stands can be permanently attached to the object or can be designed to cradle the item with-out damage. Several different stand building material options are available as well as many custom finish colors.

It's been a while since I have done any graphic layout for tear sheets...so bear with me if I revise the one above a few more times.

This tear sheet is of our most recent medium and XLG refurbished vases. All of them feature our "Imp" Leather Technique, which is a leather like finish we achieve by using recycled materials and a hand-rubbed paint finish.

Above is a slideshow of our most recent custom order, a very large hand carved Buddha head that we mounted on a gallery stand for Yellow Rose Collection. I delivered it to JTA at the LA Design Mart for Yellow Rose Collection and can now be seen in their hall display window.

***Notice the white “specks” in the photos with Fran working on the stand. That was falling ash from the local San Bernardino fires. Needless to say we wore dust masks the whole night. When we left the studio at 3am the ash fall was so thick it was like driving through a dense fog.
